How To Measure For Replacement Swing Canopy?

Last Updated on June 7, 2021

Let’s learn how to identify the type and size of the canopy canvas because it is the key to learning how to measure for replacement swing canopy. Before you start measuring, the first thing you need to do is locate the canvas tag.

The canvas tag is located on either the back or the front of the canvas. There you will see the length and the width included on the tag. If the canvas tag is unreadable or it gets missing, an easy way to figure your canvas size is to measure the width from the outside of the 3×3 canopy rail.

If the end sticks out past the tubes, which is what is known as a flared end, then it would be the length of the rail plus the ends. For example, if it is a hundred-inch-wide canopy and has a flared end, it would make the swing canopy 2 feet longer than the rail is.

Determining The Canvas Length For A Flared End Canopy:

  • 100-inch wide + 2ft
  • 110-inch wide + 2ft
  • 120-inch wide + 3ft
  • 138-inch wide + 3ft

If it has a flat end on it or if it is a flat end style canopy, where it goes straight across the end, then that would be the length of the canopy.

Measuring For A Replacement Canopy Cover

Canopy covers come in all different shapes, sizes, and designs. The popular ones are rectangular and square. If you are looking for a replacement swing canopy, you need to ensure the cover fits onto the framework.

The cover is secured in place with loop tape and hooks. Now, most of the canopy covers out there is universal fit. You can buy a custom size, but it’s not worth the extra cost.

Before you buy a replacement swing canopy, you will need to measure the frame correctly. This will ensure that the cover will fit the frame without pulling or sagging the framework out of place or out of square.

Measuring Single Tier Canopy

Here are the steps to measure single-tier canopies.

Step 1

Take your measuring tape and place the end of it on the outer edge of the leg of your canopy. Noting the length, measure to the adjacent length.

Step 2

The measurement of the length and width of square canopy frames will be identical. All you have to do now is measure the second leg to the third.

Step 3

You should never estimate the size of your canopy, even though most of them come in basic stock sizes. For example, most square replacement canopies are 8×8, 10×10, and 12×12-feet.

Measuring Two-Tier Canopies

Here are the steps for measuring two-tier canopies.

Step 1

Follow the same procedure as a single-tier canopy and measure the structure in the same manner to get the size of the bottom tier. Next, keep a recording of the measurements of the different tiers.

Step 2

Again, do not estimate any measurements. If you want to measure the top tier accurately, use a ladder. Before you move on from one post to the other, first measure the distance of two top tier posts. There are a total of four top tier posts.

Measure the distance between two of them by placing the tip of the measurement tape on the very top of one top tier post.

Step 3

You only need to obtain the measurement from the sides because two-tier canopies are always square in shape.
